From it's powerpacked dialogues to stellar performances by cast members, Gullak is a show that reflects the heartwarming stories of a middle class family that will make you laugh and cry as well.
Annu: Mummy fir se wohi... Aalu dalke peele chawal...
Mummy: Tehri bolte hai usse..
Annu: Tehri nahi disappointment bolte hai usse!
If you are tired of watching dark and violent shows, and you miss watching TV with your entire family, The Viral Fever¡¯s web-series Gullak is a breath of fresh air that you will enjoy more if you watch with your folks. After the grand success of season 1, the show has returned with season 2. This time, it loosely is based on Aman's (Harsh Mayar) boards exam.
The story of this middle-class family will take you back to your childhood days.
Mummy: Khabardaar agar kheer ko kisi ne haath lagaya toh.
Aman: Haan toh chammach se khayenge... Haath nahi lagayenge."
Remember the time when you mother used to make potato chips and spread them out on terrace to dry? When chutneys were made on Sil Battas and not a mixer grinder? When you and your sibling had to sleep in the same room? When you had to slap your TV sets to fix a blinking or flickering TV screen?
Gullak transports to that era when times were simpler, and you as a kid, had different set of problems altogether.
It's more hilarious because it's relatable. It is the story of every family.
Annu: Taango mein dard ho raha hai kya tumhare?
Aman: Nahi...kyu?
Annu: Adaa nahi rahe aajkal kisi baat pe?
This time, the bickering family is back with even more hilarious and heartwarming anecdotes. There are never-ending hassles, a jealous neighbour, and adorable banters between the siblings, parents and extended family as well.
The dialogues will stay with you for long!
What makes Gullak different from the recent shows that we have watched is the fact that its dialogues are hilarious. They are so dramatic and so good that you can use them in you real lives. For instance, when Annu talks about commitment, here's what his father tells him.
"Beta Monish Bahl wali shakal ho na toh Salman ke dialogue nahi pela karte. "
The show is well-written Durgesh Singh and directed by Palash Vaswani.
The characters are picked from real life.
Papa: Logo ka mukabala duniya se hai, tumhara ghodo se hai. Ghode khade khade so lete hain. Tum padhte padhte so lete ho.
All the characters in the show reflect our daily lives. There is a middle class father who is a clerk in the electricity department. He can take bribery and keep the family's financial problems at bay, but he won't, because he is an honest man. There's a mother, who is tired of tantrums of her young sons. She is sometimes savage, and other times sassy as a homemaker who also has to deal with an annoying and jealous neighbour aka Bitty ki Mummy who enjoys showing off.
While the show throws spotlight on their flaws, it also showcases their strengths.
Everyone in the show is a star performer.
From Harsh Mayar (Aman) to Sunita Rajwar (Bittu Ki Mummy), everyone has done a stellar job in the show, like we are watching our family next door. But the one that won our hearts over yet again is Geetanjali Kulkarni aka Mummy. Vaibhav Raj Gupta as Papa is outstanding too.
The show is closest to reality and swiftly switches from day-to-day issues to social issues.
Apart from showcasing the day to day life problems of the characters like pressure to cook the best on kitty parties, it also touches upon various topics like corruption, politics, egotism and makes us introspect.
Like the title suggests, it's a piggybank full of heartwarming middle-class stories.
It¡¯s not a story but a series of heartwarming anecdotes that will make you laugh out loud with your folks; take you back to your childhood and definitely make you feel nostalgic. The only part you¡¯ll hate about this series is that it has only five episodes. You would want more.
