Kritika Kamra Admits TV Has Become Regressive, Explains Why 'Naagin' Still Gets The Highest TRPs

Kritika Kamra is one of the popular faces in television. In a very short span of her television career, the actress became a hit with shows like Kitni Mohabbat Hai and Reporters alongside Rajeev Khandelwal. Today, she is all set for her debut film Mitron along with Jackky Bhagnani.
Indiatimes met this super enthusiastic actress and had a candid conversation with her on her transition from TV to Bollywood.
Kritika confesses with us that she has been waiting for her Bollywood debut since long but didn¡¯t want to just be an accessory. ¡° I have been close to at the brink of making my debut for quite a while now, there have been lots of films that have been offered from the big filmmakers but somehow the films didn¡¯t take off and sometimes the roles that were offered to me, I didn¡¯t like.
Sometimes the best things happen when you are looking away. I finally got something where I am just not an accessory; being a female actor, it is very difficult to find lead roles where you are doing enough.¡±

I Want To Do Meaty Roles And Don¡¯t Want To Be Just A Prop
Otherwise the transition from TV to Bollywood wouldn¡¯t make any sense, TV is like a home ground to me, it¡¯s my comfort zone, I get to play leads there, everything is fine there, it¡¯s a great medium, it goes to the masses, it gives you the popularity and the money. The idea to do films is to do better content and do good roles, I don¡¯t think the length of the role matters but there has to be a space for me to perform and I have to be crucial to the plot and the main story of the film, otherwise, it doesn¡¯t make sense. I will need a space to show whether I am a bad actor or a good actor. The film I am doing now is I get to play an actor, I am not just a prop, or I am not just a dancing track with the hero.

Bollywood Is A Male Dominating World
Frankly, there are very less roles for female actors here. But now it¡¯s still so much better which is why you are seeing female actors doing such good parts, but honestly, even now the ratio is very cued, cinema still is male dominating whereas television is not, it¡¯s just the exact opposite where female are the leads and they drive the shows.

Television Is Going More Regressive
That¡¯s a two-way road, I respect television a lot, but I will not shy away from saying that it is going more regressive, maybe the regressive word is quite harsh, but we are becoming massy . But we have to understand that such shows are getting validations from the audience like Naagin is still the number one show, at the end you have to understand its business and people have to make money, it¡¯s not like a one-way thing that only such content is being made.
I have been a part of shows like Reporters which was away from the mainstream television and we never got those TRPS like a supernatural show or a Saas Bahu drama gets because people want to watch this, unless people reject this content, new content will not have space to breed, which is why now web has become other platform where intellectual and creative work is happening and as an actor, its good time for us too.
She is clearly a strong individual and we are looking forward to her Bollywood debut film Mitron.
