Elvish Yadav Case: How Dangerous Is Snake Venom Drug And What Do Studies Say About The Addicts?

Did Elvish Yadav provide snakes for a rave party in sector 51 of Nodia? The Bigg Boss OTT 2 winner's arrest has caused a furore with several people mocking the YouTuber and others including his parents saying that he is innocent. Yadav has been sent to 14 days judicial custody. As per reports, he spent a sleepless night in jail. He was treated the same way as otherss in jail and wasn't given celebrity treatment. He reportedly confessed to his crime as well. Meanwhile, his father and mother say that their son is innocent and that people are troubling him because of they are jealous of his popularity.

What's his involvement in the case? The Police had reportedly recovered nine snakes including five cobras, and snake venom of around 20 ml during the raid in Noida's rave party. In his YouTube videos, fans have often seen snakes. The party was reportedly hosted by Yadav at his farmhouse in Noida. The snake venom was allegedly being used as a recreational drug, it was said.

Is Snake venom drug dangerous?

Not just Tobacco and cocaine are used for recreational purposes, but substances derived from snakes and scorpions are also used for recreational purposes as per the National Library of Medicine.

"Out of the various types of psychoactive substances throughout the globe, snake venom is the most dangerous substance," says a report published on the website.

Similar cases of snake venom addiction have cropped up in the past as well. In 2017, a study conducted by NCB (Narcotics Control Bureau) revealed that people used snake bites to get high. They examined five snake bike addicts aged between 19 and 28 years who admitted to the crime.

In 2018, two drug addicts in Chandigarh admitted that they would get bitten by venomous Cobra on their tongue to get high. Similarly, there were cases in Tamil Nadu and Mumbai.

Snake venom used as a de-addiction tool?

In 2021, a study conducted by Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences, found that snake venom is often used as a de-addiction tool, an attempt to counter the addiction to alcohol. Many tribes and spirit healers used to use it initially for the same purpose.

Elvish Yadav had earlier denied the allegations: Here's all you need to know about the case.

When he was accused in the case, he said, "I woke up in the morning and saw the kind of news being spread against me. It's all over the media that Elvish Yadav has been arrested, and he has been caught with intoxicating substances. All the accusations against me that are spreading are completely false. Not even 1% of them are true."

He requested the media to not tarnish his image and added, "I am ready to cooperate with the UP police, and I would like to request the UP Police, the entire administration, and respected Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to investigate thoroughly. If even 0.1% of my involvement is found in this matter, I am willing to take full responsibility."

How did Elvish Yadav's name get involved?

An animal welfare activist, from an NGO run by BJP MP Maneka Gandhi, had filed a complaint against the use of snake venom drug in Noida. During the investigation, the Police arrested five people for providing snake venom for recreational purposes at parties in Delhi-NCR who during the questioning allegedly named the Bigg Boss OTT 2 winner. Following this, an FIR was registered under the Wildlife (Protection) Act and Section 120A (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.

Earlier, reports suggest that Elvish was absconding after his name cropped up in the case. The Police later said that his role in the case was under investigation and that he was not absconding and would be arrested only if there was evidence found against him.

Yadav was later detained by the police in Rajasthan in November 2023 while he was on his way to Kota. He was however released later.

On March 17, Elvish Yadav was arrested.
