Kangana Ranaut returns to theatres with Emergency movie: Here¡¯s why her recent films have flopped
Emergency movie: Kangana Ranaut, who is in the limelight because of her latest release Emergency, needs to deliver a hit to bounce back. The National Award winner has not tasted success in over six years as most of her films have bombed at the box office.
Emergency movie: Kangana Ranaut is in the limelight because of her latest film Emergency, which hit the screens on January 17. The political drama, which features the powerhouse performer as Indira Gandhi, is a crucial release for Bollywood¡¯s ¡®Queen¡¯ as it comes at a time when she desperately needs a hit.
Why aren¡¯t Kangana¡¯s films working?
Kangana Ranaut began her career with Gangster (2006) and made an impact on the audience with her work. The actress then received critical acclaim and tasted commercial success with films such as Queen, Tanu Weds Manu, and Raaz 2. However, things have not been the same for her over the past few years.
All of her films since Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015), barring Manikarnika, have bombed at the box office and failed to excite movie goers. Dhaakad (2022) is a case in point. The action thriller went unnoticed and collected a mere Rs 3 crore in its run.
According to Manobala Vijayabalan , a trade analyst, Kangana¡¯s ¡®improper¡¯ script selection has diluted the impact of her films
¡°Improper story selection is the main reason. It made the audience lose interest in her movies, hence many don't even when her films are releasing. The buzz has reduced drastically in recent times,¡± he told Indiatimes.
However, according to Ramesh Bala¨C another trade analyst and tracker, the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020 is responsible for the dull response to her films. He feels that the audience¡¯s preferences changed after the pandemic, making it difficult for medium budget and ¡®heroine-centric¡¯ films to thrive.
¡°Pre-covid, a lot of soft movies like Tanu Weds used to work. However, now their market has come down. These days mainly mass friendly stories are working. She does heroine-oriented films. This genre has a limited appeal,¡± Bala told Indiatimes.
He added that it is possible for such movies to eventually find an audience but it will take time.
