Radhika Madan Talks About Surviving In Bollywood, Says I Had To Audition For Every Film

In a candid conversation with Indiatimes, Radhika reveals that how she didn¡¯t even think of becoming an actor and today; this profession is her passion and wants to be a part of it till her last breath.

Talking about her character in Spotlight, directed by Vasan Balan, Radhika says,
¡° When it comes to Vasan sir, he is freaking genius, he is too talented, he is a magician. He approached me with this character and I couldn¡¯t say no to him. How can anybody say no to him? Even in future when he calls me for something I would say yes to it because I believe in his craft and him so much."
"I had a blast while prepping for the character and playing her was a ride. Her journey was empowering in some level. She was an orphan with a fair skin. We all have addressed the problem of a dark skin girl and this is something different which has not been shown, her survival from being a labour to becoming Didi was just empowering.¡±

We asked Radhika if she ever thought of coming so far in this journey, to which she opened her heart out and said,
¡° Not even close. It is just funny and surprising that how did I land up here. I never wanted to be an actor. I have no contacts here, never been to Bombay and now I am living here, I guess that is what life is. It picks you and puts you at a place which is actually your purpose. I love being on this journey, it have same me discover myself and never want to give this away for anything.

Adding further, ¡°I wanted to be a professional dancer and I was a decent one. But maybe I had that seed of acting inside me. I was spotted on Facebook, I was called for an audition for a TV serial and I just gave that shot. Somewhere acting makes me feel like home. I feel like this is what I want to rest of my life. I am just driven with films, I just hope I get to do what I am doing till the last breath of my life.

When asked about facing rejection she said,
¡°People around me told that I should step back and it¡¯s not something that I can do. But somewhere I knew I would make it, even if the odds were less I held on that. I had auditioned for the biggest producers and I messed up. Because I went with the pre conceived notion that they are biggest producers and that happened to be my worst audition ever, I was stuck up that this is my make up or break situation. Having said that there are opportunities and it¡¯s just that you have to make it. I have been rejected because I didn¡¯t give my best."
"I love giving auditions because I always feel that I got an opportunity to live that character even for 2 minutes and I am going to live that to the fullest. And that perception slowly changed everything for me. I auditioned for Pataka, Angrezi Medium and I got it. I have auditioned for all the projects that I have done, no films have fell on my lap.
Talking about less opportunities for the outsiders compared to star kids, Radhika said,
¡°At the end of the day your work speaks for yourself, yes it has ups and downs. I am here for long run though. Star kids have said they have a easy start, but even they have to win audiences hearts.¡±
As we conclude our interview Radhika talks about her biggest fear as an actor,
¡°Because I love this job so much and that¡¯s why I always hope it doesn¡¯t ago away till I take my last breath, that is my real fear.¡±
