There are innumberable actors who are power house of talent but the industry has not been able to harness their true potential. They have the ability to steal away most of the attention from the lead characters. They keep nailing it with their performances, and the audiences wish to watch them again and again, yet they remain sidelined in Bollywood. Despite their unbelievably terrific performances, these actors never quite saw the light of fame that they rightfully deserve.
1. Ranvir Shorey
Known for movies like Pyaar Ke Side Effects, Khosla Ka Ghosla, Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd, Bheja Fry, Singh Is Kinng and Dasvidaniya among others Shorey had himself admitted that he feels deliberately sidelined by mainstream filmmakers today. "You should talk to the filmmakers, especially the mainstream ones and ask them why they don¡¯t give me work. I did Ek Tha Tiger, but I wasn¡¯t in Tiger Zinda Hai. I know and I feel that I¡¯m ignored," he was quoted as saying by PTI.
2. Mahi Gill
Mahie Gill has showcased her talent in many movies, especially Dev D and Gulaal after which she became an overnight star. However, she is not being offered meatier roles now. She believes her decision to do a supporting role in commercial potboiler Dabangg is the reason behind it. "After Dev D, I had won a lot of appreciation and awards. People wanted to sign me for films. But I did Dabangg and it backfired big time. The producers started to offer me small roles. I felt very bad but I did not know what was happening. I believe in destiny a lot, I think this was meant to happen. I did regret doing the role but now I do not," Mahie told PTI.
3. Abhay Deol
Abhay Deol, the OG chocolate boy of Bollywood, has once revealed his displeasure about him and Farhan Akhtar being demoted as supporting actors for ZNMD instead of being called leads at various film awards. While Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif were nominated in the lead role categories. 4. Sheeba Chaddha
From Dum Laga Ke Haisha and Luck by Chance to Pagglait, Bandish Bandits, Sharmaji Namkeen and Badhaai Do, Sheeba Chaddha has always been a scene-stealer. Sometimes as an aunt, sometimes as a mother, Sheeba has always left a long-lasting impact on the audiences with her roles. However, Bollywood still hasn't done justice to her talent. It has yet to recognized her talent. What's worse it, she is not getting paid as much as she should. "It's really really sad, because they will want a certain kind of actor for a role but then refuse to pay beyond the bare minimum. I refused two films recently, because the money was ridiculous."
5. Randeep Hooda
Even when he made his Hollywood debut with a substantial role in Chris Hemsworth starrer Extraction, Bollywood didn't support him. "Well I¡¯m quite used to it. It does happen time and again, well that¡¯s okay. Maybe they didn¡¯t like my acting, liked my action maybe, that¡¯s why they didn¡¯t speak up," he told Pinkvilla. In his career so far, he has given many impressive performances in movies like Main Aur Charles, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, Jannat 2, Cocktail, Jism 2, Highway, Kick and Sultan. No matter what role he plays, Randeep delivers a flawless measured performance by slipping into any kind of role.
6. Jaaved Jaaferi
Son of yesteryear character actor Jagdeep, Jaaved Jaaferi who has made a name for himself as a great break dancer and showcased his acting mettle in various films. Despite his spectacular comic timing Salaam Namaste and Shaurya and Dhamaal among others, he didn't get his due in bollywood.
7. Shreyas Talpade
Shreyas Talpade has proved himself as a strong actor in a variety of roles. He is capable of doing so much more, yet he remains to be underutilized. He once said that only 10 percent of people in Bollywood are genuine. He also opened up about being backstabbed by his own friends in the industry. "I found out that there are certain actors who are insecure about sharing screen space with me and don¡¯t want me in a film. I have done certain films for friends only keeping their interests in mind but then I have been back-stabbed by the same friends. Then there are friends who go ahead and make films without including me, which makes one question if they are even friends at all. Actually, in the industry, 90% of the people are just acquaintances, there are only 10% who actually feel happy when you do well. The egos are so fragile here," he said.
8. Nimrat Kaur
Last seen in Abhishek Bachchan's Dasvi, Nimrat Kaur has time and again proved that she is a powerhouse of talent. With films like The Lunchbox and Airlift among others, but not many people know that she made her debut with video for the songs Tera Mera Pyar by Kumar Sanu and Yeh Kya Hua by Shreya Ghoshal in 2004. While Nimrat is making a mark in the west with shows like Wayward Pines and Homeland. About her absence from Bollywood, she said, "I haven't consciously stayed away from Bollywood films. I genuinely wanted to work on more projects".
9. Arshad Warsi
It has been 25 years since our favourite actor Arshad Warsi stepped into Bollywood, but he says he is still looking for a job. "So, (the truth is), I have completed 25 years in the industry, and I¡¯m still looking for a job because that is how the industry is," he told Hindustan Times in an interview. Warsi remains to be an underutilized gem of the industry.
10. Tisca Chopra
The actress who has worked in shows such as Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and films like Taare Zameen Par and Qissa, and shows like 24 and hostages, has been struggling to not get typecast. "I thought after such a big success with such an iconic film, I should be able to walk into projects easily. What I didn¡¯t envisage was that stereotyping is another battle that I would now have to fight. For a year and a half, I didn¡¯t do anything till I decided to do Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji, and that kind of role reinvented the idea of what people thought I could do," she told Free Press Journal.
11. Amit Sadh
Amit Sadh said that he was banned by the TV industry and was blacklisted for being ¡°outspoken¡±. "They called each other and said isko kaam mat do. Toh phir maine kaha, ¡®Achcha? Nahi de rahe ho? Toh phir main picturon mein jaaunga,¡± he told Bollywood Hungama in an interview. Even in Bollywood, he hasn't got right kind of roles to prove his talent.
12. Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub
With films like Raanjhanaa and Tanu Weds Manu: Returns and Shahid among others, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub has made his way into the hearts of the audiences. He had once said outsiders are often lied to about movie roles and poster credits. He says fake promises about crucial roles are made."You¡¯re told that you have this projection and sometimes you¡¯re promised a poster, too. The makers sell you the character like it¡¯s the poster character and one of the main leads, but while shooting, it becomes a side character," he told Hindustan Times.
