'The Name Pushkar Nath In Kashmir Files Is A Tribute To My Dad', Anupam Kher Shares His Acting Journey

Anupam Kher-starrer The Kashmir Files has crossed 200 crore in terms of collection and people are still flocking to theatres to watch the film. Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, the film focuses on the atrocities committed by terrorists against Kashmiri Pandits in the 1990s.
Lakhs of people were forced to flee their homes and the beautiful valley of Kashmir turned into a bloodbath site.
Anupam Kher played the role of Pushkar Nath, a Kashmiri Pandit who witnesses the horrific deaths of his entire family at the hands of the terrorists.
In an emotional Instagram post, Anupam Kher opened up about his journey of becoming an actor, the story behind his character's name in the film, achieving a dream at 67 years of age, and more.
Anupam Kher began the note by writing how there was once a Kashmiri Pandit boy called Bittu, son of a clerk, 'who went on to became an actor called Anupam Kher'.
"From #Saaransh to #TheKashmirFiles; Once upon a time there was a #KashmiriPandit boy called #Bittu. His father was a clerk whose name was #PushkarNath. Bittu worked very hard and became an actor called #AnupamKher. He continued to work hard and in 38 years did #522 films," he wrote.
The actor then wrote about The Kashmir Files and how it is 'a film about the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits'. He also revealed that his character, Pushkar Nath, has been named after his father and is a tribute to him and lakhs of other Kashmiris who were victims of the horrendous violence of terrorists.
"Then came along a film called #TheKashmirFiles about the genocide of #KashmiriPandits. He was given the lead role in it. He gave this film literally his blood and soul and decided to name the character #PushkarNath as a tribute to his father and lakhs of other #Kashmiris who were the victims of horrible & senseless violence of terrorists," he wrote.
The actor concluded the note by writing, "The pain, truth and tragedy of victims connected with the world. People made it their own tragedy all over the world. Bittu¡¯s film is a roaring success today. From a clerk¡¯s son to the member of the #200Crore club at 67 is what dreams are made of. This is called the ultimate #KuchBhiHoSaktaHai. Jai Ho! The Kashmir Files released on March 11 and has been made tax-free in several states. The film also stars Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumaar, Vrinda Kher, Puneet Isaar among others.
