Rajinikanth will soon be seen in Coolie, one of the most eagerly-awaited films of the year. The biggie has created a great deal of buzz among fans as it marks the veteran mass hero¡¯s first collaboration with Lokesh Kanagaraj. According to the latest reports, the film is expected to hit the screens in May.
Rajinikanth's Coolie gets a release date
Rajinikanth, last seen in the TJ Gnanavel-directed Vettaiyan, is working on Coolie. The film features ¡®Superstar¡¯ in a stylish new avatar and marks his first collaboration with Lokesh Kanagaraj, who rose to fame with Karthi's Kaithi. According to The Times of India, Coolie is scheduled to hit the screens on May 1, 2025. The team, however, is yet to comment on this.
That said, if the film does indeed release on the said date, it will avoid a clash with the Tamil biggies Thug Life and Idli Kadai. Mani Ratnam¡¯s film is set to hit the screens on April 5. Dhanush¡¯s film, on the other hand, is set to arrive in theatres on April 10. Coolie will also benefit from the Mayday holiday if it releases as per this plan.
About Coolie
Coolie, Lokesh Kanagaraj¡¯s first film after Leo, is a gangster drama that features Rajinikanth in the role of a don. It reportedly centres on gold smuggling and features several hero elevation moments. Interestingly, unlike Vikram, it is not part of the Loki Cinematic Universe (LCU). Its cast includes Nagarjuna, Upendra, and Shruti Haasan. For Rajinikanth, it will be his first release after the actioner Vettaiyan, which hit the screens this October.
The TJ Gnanavel-directed biggie featured the Sivaji star in the role of a cop and examined the sensitive issue of encounter killings.. Its cast included Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, and Baahubali star Rana Daggubati. Lokesh, meanwhile, is set to produce The Raghava Lawrence-fronted Benz. It is set in the LCU but won¡¯t be directed by him. Lokesh is also likely to collaborate with Aamir Khan for a superhero film.
