Marvel Cinematic Universe's Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, has been banned in Saudi Arabia over inclusion of a gay character, as per The Hollywood Reporter.
One of the biggest releases of Hollywood this year, Marvel Cinematic Universe's Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, has been banned in Saudi Arabia over inclusion of a gay character, as per The Hollywood Reporter.
The film is yet to be released across the world but failed to secure the censor board's clearance in the UAE since it introduces America Chavez (played by Xochitl Gomez), a character that is gay in the comic books.
The same report also states that the film might be banned in Kuwait as well, though nothing is official as of now.
Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness is the much-awaited sequel to the 2016 film Dr Strange starring Benedict Cumberbatch in the titular role. The film's first teaser-trailer was released as a post-credit scene of Spiderman: No Way Home.
In a feature video released by Marvel Entertainment's YouTube channel, Benedict Cumberbatch can be heard saying, "It's pretty unfathomably exciting where we're going in this film. It's the most fantastic new phase of Marvel."
Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness also stars Elizabeth Olsen as the Scarlett Witch, Wanda. In the series Wanda Vision, fans got to learn of her true identity and got an idea of the kind of power she holds. In the Doctor Strange sequel, Wanda will have a key role. She says, "In this story, we¡¯re leaping into different universes. But unlocking the Multiverse creates a big Pandora¡¯s box."
The concept of multiverse was introduced in Spiderman: No Way Home when Doctor Strange opened a portal to alternate universes when a spell went wrong. What followed was villains from all universes hopping on to the present one, looking forward to killing Peter Parker.
Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness will be releasing in theatres on May 6, 2022. The bookings of tickets has already begun and the excitement around the film is palpable.
