Fans furious as Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan's 'The Legend of Maula Jatt' gets Indian release while Pakistan banned Gadar 2
Fans express outrage as Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan's film The Legend of Maula Jatt prepares for its Indian release, while the Bollywood film Gadar 2 remains banned in Pakistan, highlighting ongoing cultural tensions.
The tensions between India and Pakistan have often impacted cultural exchanges. While Pakistani artistes were banned in India post the Uri attacks in 2016, the Supreme Court in 2023 dismissed a plea seeking a complete ban on Pakistani artistes from performing or working in India. As a result of which, the now much-hyped 2022 Pak film The Legend of Maula Jatt starring the most loved Jodi Mahira Khan and Fawad Khan is all set to be released in India, thus becoming the first Pakistani film to screen in the country after ten years. However, fans aren't pleased.

While Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan's fans are happy, several others are unhappy about India's decision. "They didn't let Gadar 2 release there I don't know why always India wants to be generous. If the government respects the Indian sentiments they shouldn't allow it's release," one of the users commented. "Main toh nahi dekhunga (I will not watch it)," said another user. "Sharam aani chaiye Indians ko (Indians should be ashamed)," said a third user. "He said bad about our country and we are waiting for his movie," a fourth user said.
"Pakistan me cricket khelne nhi jayenge par movie release karenge pakistan ki (We won¡¯t go to Pakistan to play cricket, but we'll release their movies)," said another user. "Boycott Pakistani actors," lamented another user. "Should not allow to enter in our country. Why we should watch Pakistani actors in our theatre. We have our own talented actors. Now Pakistani Cinema is entering and slowly people and the whole of Pakistan will enter," another enraged fan said.
Directed by Bilal Lashari, the film is a remake of Maula Jatt whose story revolves around the legendary rivalry between brutal gang leader Noori Natt played by Hamza Ali Abbasi and local hero Maula Jatt played by Fawad Khan. The film is releasing in India on October 2. While Mahira Khan was last seen in Raees alongside Shah Rukh Khan, Fawad Khan was seen in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Kapoor & Sons and Khoobsurat. Would you go and watch The Legend of Maula Jatt in theatres?
