One of the biggest turning points was allegedly Govinda¡¯s growing fondness for Neelam, with whom he shared incredible on-screen chemistry in multiple films.
From Ilzaam to Love 86, their pairing was a massive hit, and Govinda was reportedly so smitten by Neelam that he wanted his real life to mirror their reel romance. In a resurfaced old interview with Stardust from 1990, Govinda himself admitted that his admiration for Neelam caused friction in his relationship with Sunita and landed to an extreme extent.
Govinda told the portal back then, ¡°She (Sunita) began feeling insecure and jealous. And I was of no help. She would nag me and I would lose my temper. We had constant fights. I lost my head and called it quits. I asked Sunita to leave me. I broke off my engagement with her. Had Sunita not called me after five days and coaxed me into it again, I would probably have married Neelam.¡±
