The year 2024 was an eventful one for the Telugu film industry. The months gone by saw Tollywood consolidate its standing as the go-to place for pan-India content as Prabhas¡¯ Kalki 2898 AD and the Allu Arjun-led Pushpa 2 exceeded expectations to individually gross Rs 1000 crore at the worldwide box office. However, it was not all smooth sailing for the industry despite this remarkable feat. Several big names from T-Town found themselves in the middle of heated controversies, which left everyone in a state of shock. With 2025 almost upon us, here is a look at the most controversial moments of 2024.
Pushpa 2 stampede row
Allu Arjun attended the premiere of Pushpa 2 at the Sandhya theatre in Hyderabad on December 4 and interacted with fans. Those in attendance rushed to get a glimpse of the ¡®Stylish Star, resulting in a stampede-like situation. A 35-year-old woman lost her life in the ensuing chaos and her son suffered serious injuries.

Allu Arjun was soon arrested in connection with the case. He was granted interim bail within hours but had to spend a night in jail as there was a delay in receiving a copy of the order.
Mohan Babu¡¯s feud with his son
¡®Collection King¡¯ Mohan Babu made headlines in 2024 because of a property dispute with Manoj, his youngest son. The Son of India actor accused him and his wife, Mounika, of trying to take over his house. Following this, both sides filed police complaints.
Amid this, Mohan Babu also attacked a journalist. This led to a police case against the actor. Mohan Babu eventually apologised to the journalist.
Case against Jani Master
Choreographer Jani Master found himself in the limelight for a shocking reason this September when a complaint was filed against him in connection with a sexual assault case. Following this, he was taken into custody. Moreover, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting suspended his National Award for a song from Thiruchitrambalam
Jani Master was eventually granted bail on October 24.
Konda Surekha¡¯s remarks about Samantha¡¯s divorce
Konda Surekha, a politician from Telangana, found herself in a controversy when she tried to link BRS leader KT Rama Rao to Samantha and Naga Chaitanya¡¯s divorce in 2021. Several big names from the industry objected to her remark. Moreover, the Mersal actress herself asked her to respect her privacy.
Additionally, Nagarjuna¨C Chay¡¯s father¨C filed a defamation suit against her.
Vettaiyan Telugu title row
Rajinikanth¡¯s Vettaiyan landed in a controversy in the Telugu states because of its title. The film was dubbed in Telugu as Vettaiyan The Hunter. This ruffled a few feathers as the audience wanted the makers to use a Telugu title. The makers eventually clarified that they wanted to call the film Vetagadu in Telugu but could not do so because of legal reasons.
Vettaiyan eventually hit the screens in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana under the original title and underperformed at the box office.
