It is no secret that 2024 was an eventful year for Telugu cinema. Prabhas' Kalki 2898 AD emerged as a sensational blockbuster and received rave reviews. Similarly, the Allu Arjun-led Pushpa 2 set the box office on fire. However, not every film that hit the screens this year managed to impress the audience. In fact, several big ticket flicks sank without a trace in 2024. Here is a look at the biggest flops from the past 12 months.
Guntur Kaaram
Mahesh Babu suffered a big setback during Sankranti when the Trivikram-helmed Guntur Kaaram failed to live up to expectations at the ticket window. The action-comedy, shot on a budget of Rs 200 crore, grossed merely 172 crore worldwide and ended up being a colossal failure.
Operation Valentine
Varun Tej impressed fans with his intense performance in Operation Valentine, one of the most ambitious films of his career. The action drama, however, failed to attract the audience and ended up being a disappointment of epic proportions. The biggie, shot on a budget of Rs 50 crore, earned merely Rs 9.50 crore during its run in theatres
Yatra 2
Jiiva received positive reviews for his portrayal of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in the biographical drama. The film, however, failed to attract the audience. Shot on a budget of Rs 50 crore, Yatra 2 grossed merely Rs 7.3 crore globally during its run in theatres.
Saindhav
Saindhav, directed by Sailesh Kolanu, received favourable reviews with critics praising Venkatesh's performance and the emotional storyline. The positive word-of-mouth, however, failed to help the action-thriller make an impact at the box office. Saindhav, shot on a budget of Rs 55 crore, grossed merely Rs 25 crore during its theatrical run.
Eagle
Ravi Teja's, who hit a roadblock when Tiger Nageshwar Rao failed to work its magic at the box office, tried to revive his career with Karthik Ghattamneni's Eagle. Unfortunately, the thriller sank at the box office and collected merely Rs 31 crore worldwide during its run. It was shot on a budget of 35 crore.
The Family Star
The Family Star created a fair deal of buzz among fans prior to its release as it marked Vijay Deverakonda¡¯s first collaboration with Mrunal Thakur, who rose to fame in Tollywood with her work in Sita Ramam. However, it failed to live up to the hype and ended up being a disaster. Shot on a budget of Rs 50 crore, it grossed merely Rs 23 crore at the worldwide box office during its run
Mr Bachchan
Ravi Teja¡¯s Mr Bachchan, an underwhelming remake of Ajay Devgn¡¯s Raid, opened to a lukewarm response at the box office in August and received negative reviews. The unimpressive word-of-mouth proved to be its undoing as it grossed merely Rs 7 crore during its run. The film was shot on a budget of Rs 70 crore.
Double iSmart
The action-thriller failed to click with the audience despite being a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster iSmart Shankar. The Ram and Sanjay Dutt-led film, which was shot on a budget of Rs 90 crore, grossed merely Rs 18 crore at the box office.
Gam Gam Ganesha
This wasn¡¯t a particularly good year for Anand Deverakonda, Vijay¡¯s brother, as Gam Gam Ganesha sank without a trace at the box office. The crime-comedy collected a paltry Rs 6 crore at the worldwide box office. It was shot on a budget of Rs 12 crore.
Matka
Matka created a great deal of buzz among fans ahead of its release as it featured Varun Tej in a new avatar. This, however, counted for nothing as the thriller proved to be a non-starter.
It collected merely Rs 3.4 crore at the box office and recovered barely 8.5% of the investment.
