Maha Kumbh Traffic: Prayagraj has introduced a new traffic plan for Maha Kumbh 2025 to manage the massive crowd during Maghi Purnima. From February 11, vehicles will be banned in the fair zone from 4 AM, and citywide restrictions will apply from 5 PM.
Authorities have designated 5 lakh parking spots along different routes to control congestion. The decision follows the tragic stampede on January 29 during the Mauni Amavasya Shahi Snan, which left 30 people dead and 60 injured. UP CM Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to implement strict traffic rules and ensure smooth movement for devotees.

New Traffic Rules for Maha Kumbh 2025
To prevent overcrowding and improve crowd management, the following traffic rules will be in place:
- Vehicles Banned in Fair Zone: Starting from February 11 at 4 AM, no vehicles will be allowed in the Maha Kumbh fair zone.
- Citywide Restrictions: From 5 PM onwards, vehicle movement will be restricted across Prayagraj.
- Designated Parking Areas: Authorities have set up 5 lakh parking spots along different routes to accommodate visitors.
- Exemptions: Emergency and essential service vehicles are exempt from these restrictions.
Why These Restrictions Were Imposed?
The strict traffic measures were introduced after the stampede on January 29 during the Mauni Amavasya Shahi Snan, which resulted in 30 deaths. The large crowd pushed past barricades, leading to chaos. A three-member inquiry commission has been formed to investigate the cause of the incident.
