In a tweet on X (previously Twitter), CEO Bhavish Agarwal stated that the Gen 3 EV scooters will be launched on January 31 at 10:30am IST. The official claimed that its new platform outperforms second-generation products in design, functionality, and performance.
The accompanying teaser image reveals the scooter's design, which appears comparable to other goods in the company's portfolio, specifically the Ola S1 Pro.
Ola Electric Gen 3 expected specifications
Ola Electric's next Gen 3 platform will include a unique magnetless motor, integrated single board electronics, and the battery as a structural component within the chassis. This innovative design is predicted to reduce bill of materials (BOM) expenses by 20% in the coming year while improving overall performance by 26%.
At the heart of the Ola Gen 3 platform is the "Inside the Box" architecture. This design combines the motor, battery, and electronics into a unified system. Notably, with the Gen 3, the battery pack acts as a structural component, increasing the vehicle's stiffness and safety while still serving as a power source.
Ola claims that this novel component arrangement improves scalability, allowing the company to produce a wide range of electric scooters, from tiny versions for daily commuting to high-performance varieties.
The Ola Gen 3 platform not only has better packaging, but it also includes a cutting-edge battery technology that makes use of 4680 battery cells created domestically. These improved cells are believed to have a 10% higher energy density than their predecessors. The cells have in-moulded bus bars to improve efficiency and lifespan.
Ola Electric introduced magnetless motors when developing the Gen 3 platform. These novel motors, which replace standard permanent magnets with magnetized electrical coils, are touted to give improved torque and efficiency while lowering reliance on rare earth elements. Ola claims that this improvement not only improves motor performance, but also promotes a more environmentally friendly production process.
Ola Electric Gen 3 expected price
The cheapest variant will be the Ola S1 X, which will cost Rs. 79,999 and have a 2kWh battery.
The most costly model will be the Ola S1 Pro, which will cost Rs. 1.29 lakh for a 3kWh battery pack and Rs. 1.59 lakh for a 4kWh battery.
