Explained: 'Har Ghar Tiranga' Campaign, To Celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav

The Central Government is all ready to launch a massive campaign encouraging Indians to fly the national flag at their home to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Independence Day.

According to officials aware of the programme, the Centre has contacted manufacturers and e-commerce sites to increase the availability of the Tricolor.

According to reports, the Culture Ministry would urge raising the national flag on 26 crore rooftops nationwide during "Independence Week" from August 11 to August 17 as part of the "Har Ghar Tiranga" Campaign, which is part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

It consists of all institutions in the public and government sectors, as well as businesses, NGOs, dining places, shopping centres, toll booths, and police stations, among others.

Instead of conducting a distribution drive, the campaign's goal was to inspire individuals. Districts have been instructed to put up banners, booklets, standees, and hoardings to promote this event. All government trucks, private and public buses, as well as other forms of public transportation, ought to display signs and bumper stickers promoting "Har Ghar Tiranga."

Reportedly, to ensure that these websites would be a platform for buying flags, meetings were arranged with e-tailers like Amazon and Flipkart. According to TOI, chief secretary DS Mishra instructed them to make sure that there are enough flags across the state for this scheme during a meeting with district judges and divisional commissioners.

Self-help groups, neighbourhood tailors, ITIs, and experts from various trade schools should be located, according to a government official, who also suggested forming "flag manufacturing groups" to stitch a sufficient number of flags.

How is it made possible?

The Union Home Ministry had last year changed the Flag Code, which had previously only permitted the production of hand-woven or hand-spun flags, in order to support the campaign.

Flags can now be produced using polyester and machinery. Previously, The Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act of 1950 and the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act of 1971 controlled the use of the national flag.

What is the Flag Code of India?

A system of rules, customs, and guidelines known as the Flag Code of India governs how the Indian flag should be displayed. The "Flag Code-India" that had previously been in place was replaced by the Code, which went into force on January 26, 2002.

The Indian Flag Code is broken into three sections: A general description of the national flag in the first section. Second Section: Flying of the national flag by representatives of government, business, and educational organisations, among others. Disposing of the national flag

The Flag Code states that after the event, these paper flags are not to be thrown away or left lying around.

Such flags must be disposed of privately in a manner that respects the flag's honour.

According to the panel of judges led by Chief Justice of India V. N. Khare, the people of India have the fundamental right to fly the national flag year-round on their property.

However, it was specified that the grounds must not be disrespectful to the dignity of the national flag.
