We all know how AIDS and HIV is an ever present danger to the society. As yet there is still no known vaccine that can be used to curb this deadly infection.
To spread awareness about the need of the vaccine, there is a day set aside every year that is known as HIV Vaccine Awareness Day and World Aids Vaccine Day. This day is celebrated on May 18.
As well as raising awareness of the need for a vaccine it also celebrates those that work towards this goal. All those who have helped the victim of the infection also receive praise on this particular day.
In 1997, during a speech made at Morgan State University, president of the day Bill Clinton asked the experts and scientists around the world to work towards creating a vaccine for AIDS. He mentioned that this would be the only way to limit its spread and eventually wipe it out.

Do not wait for symptoms of AIDS to appear. Get a regular blood test done from time to time and get yourself detected for AIDS.
Always have safe intercourse to avoid the spread of AIDS or any other sexually transmitted disease. Also, talk to your partner about HIV testing and get tested before you have any sexual experience.
Do not ever share needles or any other injecting object to prevent transmission of AIDS virus.
Use disposable gloves when at risk of direct contact with blood.
HIV positive women should consider giving birth by cesarean section.
All HIV and new mothers should consider feeding their baby with formula instead of breastfeeding.
Limit your number of sexual partners, as the more partners can be the cause of HIV.
People who are very likely to get HIV, like sex workers or those in a relationship with someone who is HIV-positive can take a pill every day to help prevent infection. This is called PrEP - Pre-exposure prophylaxis.
Is AIDs a curable disease:
Currently, there is no cure for HIV. Once this virus of HIV enters your body it can¡¯t be removed but Antiretroviral therapy (ART) can prevent or reverse the damage to your immune system. Most people stay healthy if they choose to go for ART treatment. There are several other drugs that can prevent or treat opportunistic infections. This is also suggested that ART can also reduce the rate of most OIs. Drugs may help in reducing the infection but it can¡¯t be cured properly.
