Winter calls for some extra efforts and a few changes to your hair care routine. Excessive dryness during those cold winter months will lead to hair breakage and dry scalp. So, one must begin to winter proof their hair as soon as this cold season begins.
Retain the moisture
The low moisture level in the air will cause a decrease in the moisture level in your hair. Due to this your hair will feel and look dry. To combat this, switch to a shampoo and conditioner formulated for dry hair. Also remember to add plenty of water to your diet to keep you hydrated internally.
Shampoo your hair once a week
Your hair and scalp becomes drier than usual during winter. Washing your hair every day or three times a week causes the hair to lose its natural oils. Limit your hair washes to once a week during winter.
Don¡¯t use hot water
A hot water shower may seem like a tempting treat on a winter day but this will damage your hair and wash away the oils, thus causing frizziness and breakage. Take a shower with lukewarm water instead and rinse it out with cold water in the end to smoothen your hair.
Minimise the heat
Using heat on your hair will cause breakage and damage. Avoid using heating tools like a hair dryer or a straightening iron and air dry your hair instead. If you can¡¯t avoid it, make sure you apply some leave-in conditioner before you use the heating tool.
Keep your hair protected
Your hair should remain protected at all time during winter. Do not go out with wet hair as it will not only damage your health but your hair as well. Remember to tie your hair whenever you go out instead of leaving it loose to avoid damage. Use a hat or scarf for extra protection.
