13 Photos That Showcase The Reality Of Living With A Mental Disorder

Photographer Christian Sampson had planned to do a series of pictures on a physical illness like cancer, but he changed his mind and decided to try to showcase mental disorders instead. In his series titled A Visual Depiction of Mental Disorders, he portrays the daily life of a person living with these illnesses.

At just 21, Sampson didn¡¯t have the funds he needed for the project, so he got his friends to model for him in the pictures. Over the course of the 8-week shoot, he covered a number of mental illnesses, from depression and anxiety to paranoia and addiction. He has purposely kept the tone of the photos dark, to highlight the fact that people with these diseases are indeed suffering.
