Mobile game livestreaming startup Mobcrush has raised over $11 million from investors in a recent round of funding after launching a beta version of its platform on iOS and Mac OSX.
The company aims to corner the market on natively livestreaming mobile games, effectively doing for iOS and Android what Twitch does for PC and console games. Competition is sparse but heating up, and includes companies like DeNA’s Mirrativ and Kamcord, which added livestreaming to its mobile game video-sharing platform in July.
“Mobcrush is already showing engagement numbers that prove that there’s a passionate community of viewers and broadcasters of mobile games,” stated Mike Abbott, a representative of funding round leader Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, in a press release announcing the deal. “The company has the right tech, the right team and the right timing.”
Mobcrush rolled out the welcome mat this summer for a pair of high-profile hires with experience overseeing the games side of Apple’s App Store and Google Play, and now the company is preparing to launch its livestreaming service across more platforms in the months ahead.
