Admit it. If you've travelled far and wide, there are some cities in the world you've felt have not been as welcoming as they probably could have been.

Whether it was an unfriendly encounter with a local when all you wanted to know were directions, or blatantly rude service at a famous restaurant or cafe, you've been left wondering if the concept of manners even existed here.

Give or take a bad day (or a few), some cities are quite consistent when it comes to their reputation of being rude, unfriendly and cold to tourists.

We asked travel writers to rank cities based on everything from access to art and culture to the friendliness of locals, and some cities failed to warm their hearts. While the obvious rude cities (according to popular belief), make an appearance on our list, there are quite a few surprises in there too.

Naturally, Miami caters to people that are wealthy and these people might not be too sweet to people who aren't as rich as them or hail from different destinations.¡±

Most travellers have reported an endless barrage of scams taking place in Vietnam's capital, Hanoi. Tourists found that most interactions with locals were spent arguing about taxi fares and some even report being coerced into paying double the agreed amount upon reaching the destination.
