Young Mumbai-based artist Mahesh Karambele is all set to showcase his latest art works in a show titled Citylights.
The works, all acrylic colours on canvas, will be put up for display at a South Mumbai gallery. Says the artist, "I have tried my best to show the salient features of Mumbai ¡ª the city of dreams ¡ª in my works. The ongoing and continuous struggle of every person who resides in Mumbai has always fascinated me. Here, people live in different conditions and deal with all sorts of problems. I wanted to capture all this in my works in my own unique style and technique.
I have been impressed by the enthusiasm and sentimental feelings of the common man. A huge number of people really struggle for existence and yet in spite of all the hardships and ordeals they face in life, they are determination to live a happy life in Mumbai. This has been the main source of inspiration for my works in the show."
Apart from being inspired by the city, Mahesh says that life experiences ¡ª both happy and sad, have also played an important role. "While living in Mumbai, a lot of people left huge impressions on my mind. The guidance I received from some contemporary and senior artists and known acquaintances as well as art connoisseurs and promoters has been monumental. This encouraged me to exemplify the subtle nuances of various facets of this metropolis. Viewers will see various colour patterns, compositional skills, light and shade/ reflection effects etc in my works. I selected this subject so as to highlight the ongoing struggle and the relevant mindscapes of the common people in Mumbai. So, in my works, you will notice crowded spots there like Crawford Market, Mangaldas Market, CST, Gateway of India etc using the relevant visual realistic impressions," adds the artist.
Works by Mahesh Karambele titled Citylights can be viewed at Kamalnayan Bajaj Art Gallery, Bajaj Bhavan, Jamnalal Bajaj Marg, 226 Nariman Point from August 4 to 9, 11 am to 7 pm.
