Spellbound devotees were given the first glimpse of the iconic 12-foot idol dressed in maroon attire on September 5. While the 'darshan' of the idol will begin from Ganesh Chaturthi on September 7, this year the theme of decorations is supposed to be inspired by the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Designed by famous art director Nitin Chandrakant Desai, the entrance to the mandal will feature a replica of the Ram Temple, including the temple's grand dome and an idol of Lord Ram. According to a Times of India report, 2024's Lalbaugcha Raja has secured insurance of a whopping Rs 32.76 crore from New India Insurance which covers the mandal workers, the set, property, gold jewellery and other ornaments, and any other third-party liability.

A major part of Mumbai's Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations for nearly 100 years, the mandal was actually set up in 1934 when residents of the Lakbaug earmarked an area for worship. Back then, the location was dominated by close to 100 textile mills at the peak of the Industrial Revolution. Since then, the Lalbaugcha Raja Ganapati idol has been under the care of the Kambli family.
Well, the celebrations are just about to begin and we hope all of you are ready to welcome Bappa into your homes once again!
