In Our Search For Romance, We Forget How Platonic Relationships Are Just As Important...

Defining what love means is trying to describe the taste of water. We just don't have the right perspective to describe it entirely.

Our definition of love has been based on how we have loved and been loved, making it hard to establish a single, concise definition for the most intense emotion to ever exist.

The craziest part is that we all can love different people in entirely different ways. Which brings me to my point: in our search for romance, we've forgotten how important platonic relationships can be.

Platonic relationships are by definition without any physical intimacy or sex obviously. Here, I will try to explain in detail why it's equally important to invest in a friendship and just how rewarding it can be for your mind and heart.

I have always had my doubts about the legitimacy of platonic relationships. Because in the selfish and cynical world that we reside in, why would one person love another if not for goods, services or sex?

But I was so wrong.

My view changed when I met my best friend. I deeply cherish my friendship with her over my romantic relationship. And it does me more good than harm.

The appeal of platonic relationship for me begins with how this one individual isn't interested in how you look, whether you are skinny or curvy or what designer bags you own or what car you drive. The only time the sentence "I couldn't care less" holds true is here.

So what do people in platonic relationships desire? Seeking like-minded people.

People in platonic relationships are very serious about their desire. How? Through conversations, conversations and more conversations.

It seems like all people want to in platonic relationships is talk. Talk about shared interests, what keeps them awake at night and what adds happiness to their days. Talk about anything with an open heart. Isn't that a lot like friendship? Yes it is.

And the one reason that I give friendships or friendships more value is because platonic love is durable and romantic love is way to delicate. Platonic love or friendship is like the coffee or tea in your morning routine. It's there, it's a given.

Platonic love is sturdy. Everything could go wrong and you would know this one relationship would say the same. Anyone who has been in a romantic relationship will say that these relationships require real work, a sort of constant creativity and magic to keep them alive and strong.

We have always devalued the friend zone. And while we do that, we are ranking friendship in our list of priorities even lower. Platonic relationships and friendships are not a penalty box or an almost love equation. It's a relationship to be thankful and excited for because you are loved for who you are and for speaking your beautiful and intelligent thoughts, every single day.
