In their quest for genuine connections and deeper compatibility, daters are intentionally adopting a more measured approach. While the allure of rapid dating has captivated many, it's becoming increasingly evident that this approach often falls short. Fast dating, where individuals engage with multiple people briefly to determine compatibility, tends to yield unsatisfactory results. In fact, it can make it challenging to establish meaningful connections with anyone.

As a response to this, a growing number of individuals from the younger generation are veering away from this fast-paced dating model, opting instead to embrace a slower, more deliberate approach to building relationships.

Indian dating app QuackQuack 'ran a survey for five days, targeting individuals who are actively dating or are in a committed relationship. A total of 14,000 daters between 18 and 32 participated in the study. The respondents were given a series of questions related to online dating and connecting with a match virtually.'

Daters want to delve deeper

According to the survey, 29% of daters strongly advise conducting a comprehensive exploration before committing to a relationship. They emphasise the importance of thoroughly assessing any potential match that shows promise of becoming something more significant. Merely perusing a person's dating profile is insufficient. Instead, they stress the need for a deliberate and meticulous examination, which includes scrutinizing their social media profiles and consulting at least one mutual friend for insights.

These daters, primarily hailing from tier 1 and tier 2 cities, contend that while initial interactions with a match may showcase the best versions of individuals, determining whether someone is deserving of love and trust necessitates a more extensive evaluation process than just a few days of chatting.

There is a huge emphasis given to emotional connection

A resounding 54% of daters, predominantly from the Gen Z and Millennial generations, emphasise the importance of forging a substantial emotional bond before fully committing to an online match. They contend that merely scratching the surface of connection falls short of establishing a relationship with staying power. Their remarks highlight a significant shift away from superficial considerations toward a deeper, more meaningful approach to relationships. These daters, aged between 22 and 28, stress the necessity of engaging in profound conversations with a potential partner and sharing minor details of their lives before granting them the status of a significant other.

Communication helps identify deal breakers

Among women who advocate for taking a thorough approach before committing to a relationship, 38% stress the importance of gaining awareness about potential deal-breakers through extended communication. They recommend engaging in discussions about life goals, and perspectives, and observing how a match handles challenging situations. This deliberate process helps identify incompatibilities or red flags and provides an opportunity to address them, potentially resolving issues that aren't overly complex before becoming deeply emotionally invested.

Progressing with patience

People are realising how good things take time. So, when wanting to get into a relationship, people are making sure that they progress ahead with patience. "21% of men above 30 acknowledged how important it is to strike a balance between progress and patience. They explained how daters should take things slow. They should scope their options because there are many, and not settle for the first person who smiles at them." Moving fast in a relationship does not generally help anyone. When there are a lot of declarations of love too soon after talking, it can also make the other person feel a little sceptical and suspicious about the intentions.

Resolving concerns with maturity

When it comes to dating nowadays, ghosting has become a common affair. Leaving or discontinuing talking without any further explanation can leave one questioning a lot many things. This is where prolonged talking can come in handy. "40% of women from metros and other developed cities expressed their concerns about being ghosted or manipulated into indulging in casual dating while they are seeking something more permanent, and they believe that prolonging the getting-to-know part can actually reduce the chances of the same. Even if there are miscommunications about the intent of dating, it can get cleared if the chatting phase runs longer."
