However, ATM thefts are not something new, there are innumerable tales of inept robbers who tried to steal money from ATM machines and failed miserably. Here's a lineup of the funniest ATM heists in India.

ATM Burglars Who Lost Hope

Back in 2010, a group of burglars from Bengaluru literally uprooted an HDFC ATM and managed to lug the 400kg machine without waking the sleepy guards. They then drove nearly 15km away from the city to unlock the ATM. They tried everything from burning the teller machine to breaking to open, but unfortunately failed to get through the cash compartment. They eventually abandoned the ATM near the Chikka Nagamangala Lake in Bengaluru.

Robber Who Only Managed To Break CCTV camera

In a pathetic attempt to rob cash out of the sturdy teller machine, a thief gave it his all the brek open a Punjab National Bank ATM. After half an hour's struggle, all he did was break the two CCTV cameras installed in the ATM to wipe out any evidence.

Scared Away By The Alarm

In another stupid attempt, a Kerala man tried to break ope the South Indian Bank ATM. While he was busy drilling through the machine, the motion sensing alarm went off. The robber was left so shaken that ran away with nothing in his hand.

The SUV Disaster

In July this year a group of thieves from Jaipur managed to uproot an ATM machine after which they tied it to their SUV and dragged it for a distance. People in the neighbourhood woke to the loud sound of the teller machine being dragged on the road. To mask their heist the robbers sparyed painted the CCTV. The amount they managed to swindle out of the ATM remains unclear.

The Dumbest ATM robbery in history!

Four men who considered themselves 'thieves' were caught red handed in Assam, when they tried to runway with an ATM 'passbook printing' machine which they though was a cash vending machine. Nothing can be more disappointing for than this scenario. The most baffling part about this funny heist is that the men named Sahab Ali, Saiful Rahman, Mainul Haque and Saddam Hussain, somehow managed to flee the crime scene in VIP car.
