This One Thing Is Often Overlooked But It's The Reason You Haven't Been Sleeping Well
According to Feng Shui the Chinese concept of using energy to create harmony between an individual and the physical space they use we often overlook the headboard. Headboards are thought to hold and nurture energy at night and to make you feel more secure and comfortable.
Just sleep on it. It's easy, they said. But what if you're not able to sleep well? Perfect mattress with good spine support, check. Fresh clean bed linen, check. Warm, straight-out-the-washing-machine duvet, check. But why does sleep still elude you?
Marie "Sparks Joy" Kondo, the 'organising consultant' on her latest series on Netflix, Tidying Up With Marie Kondo talks about doing away with things that don't 'spark joy' when you hold them. Imagine applying this concept to our sleeping space, our beds.

According to Feng Shui, the Chinese concept of using energy to create harmony between an individual and the physical space they use, when we focus on things like our mattress and pillow in an attempt to create the perfect sleep environment, we often overlook the headboard.
It's crazy we've overlooked it so far but if you read on, it'll make sense.
Feng shui expert Bryce Kennedy told aol.com, "Headboards are thought to hold and nurture energy at night, and to make you feel more secure and comfortable. Their presence visually establishes a safe space to let yourself become intimate and vulnerable."

So, it's high time you invest in a bed for grown ups. Here are a few things that'll help you recognise a feng shui-approved headboard:
1. Make sure it's solid
A solid headboard create positive Chi, and also a sheltered space that'll in turn cradle your energy. Any sort of openwork like bars, open curtains etc. allow this energy to flow out which makes them unfit items to create a headboard out of.
2. It's even better if it's attached to the bed
Remember we spoke about creating a sheltered space where you can bring your guard down? There's no point to the kind of headboard that doesn't easily form part of the structure.
3. Wooden versus padded
There's nothing wrong in either. Wood has a more natural, easy energy about it while something padded brings with itself a softness that makes it easier to rest the head and neck.

4. A levelled headboard
Again, there's no point to this activity if your neck and head don't naturally come to rest on the headboard. If it's too small or too high, ditch it. Make sure the level of the headboard matches the bed in proportion.
5. Avoid anything with sharp edges
The thing to keep in mind is the safe sanctuary you're trying to create for your night's sleep. Sharp edges just sound wrong, and their energy feels more aggressive. Anything with softer, more rounded edges will make for a perfect headboard and energy will flow more smoothly too.
