Post-Celebration Glow: Skincare Tips For After Christmas And New Year Festivities
The festive season is here and that means some glitz and glamour with your makeup. Here is how to care for the skin after those harsh makeup rituals.
The festive season is around the corner, which includes a lot of partying and a lot of celebrations. So, obviously, one wants to look their best during these times of festivities, and that means some party makeup. Nothing is off the list when it comes to these party makeup rituals. So, one cannot judge some heavy red lipsticks and super glittery highlighters.
But after these rituals are over, one has to remember to take care of the skin. Dr. Priti Shenai, Dermatologist & Trichologist, Skinworks Clinic, has shared some very important skincare tips one should follow after all those celebrations:
Use gentle cleanser
If you have dry skin, look for a hydrating or creamy cleanser that doesn't strip away natural oils. Look for a cleanser that includes ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and ceramides that can help lock in moisture. Avoid cleansers with harsh sulphates, as they can be drying. For exfoliators, look for products containing alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), like glycolic acid or lactic acid, as they exfoliate without being overly harsh. Consider using a hydrating mask with ingredients like honey or oatmeal for additional moisture.
If you have oily skin, Opt for a gel-based or foaming cleanser to help control excess oil. In your cleanser, look for ingredients like salicylic acid or niacinamide, which can help regulate oil production. Avoid heavy, creamy cleansers that may contribute to a greasy feeling. Choose a chemical exfoliator with beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs), such as salicylic acid, which is oil-soluble and can penetrate into pores to control oil and prevent breakouts; use exfoliating masks with ingredients like clay to absorb excess oil. Avoid abrasive physical exfoliants that can potentially irritate the skin and stimulate more oil production.
Hydrate and nourish
Proper hydration is essential for healthy, glowing skin. Start by replenishing your skin¡¯s moisture with a hydrating serum or essence. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, which helps attract and retain moisture, leaving your skin plump and supple. Follow with a lightweight moisturiser to seal in hydration and provide essential nutrients to your skin. For the best and longest-lasting outcomes, explore advanced treatments like bio-remodelling and hydroboosters. These treatments offer a comprehensive solution for individuals aiming to tackle both hydration and fine lines. Profhilo, an innovative bio-remodelling procedure, uses ultrapure hyaluronic acid to deeply hydrate and internally reshape the skin, leading to improved elasticity and radiance. On the other hand, the Viscoderm HydroBooster utilises a hydro-stretch technique. That provides deep hydration of the skin and superficial stretching for fine lines and wrinkles. A combination therapy of both Profhilo and Viscoderm Hydrobooster creates a synergistic effect, elevating the overall quality of the skin.
Protect your skin from the sun
Even if your New Year's celebration is indoors, don't forget the importance of sunscreen. UV rays can still reach your skin through windows, causing damage and premature aging. Sunscreen helps in maintaining an even skin tone by preventing the formation of dark spots and pigmentation caused by UV exposure. This is important, regardless of the season. SPF also plays a role in preventing premature ageing signs such as wrinkles, fine lines, and loss of skin elasticity. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to protect your skin from harmful rays. Remember to reapply every few hours, especially if you're spending time outdoors.
Try Skintermittent fasting
Similar to intermittent fasting, which involves eating only during specific times to promote weight loss and overall health, the skin also benefits from a fasting plan and a break from continuous product use. This process entails simplifying your skincare routine by keeping only essential products such as cleanser, moisturiser, and sunscreen. The goal is to streamline your routine by addressing the root causes of breakouts and resetting your skin. This innovative approach focuses on a different aspect¡ªtime¡ªpotentially leading to radiant and well-hydrated skin. The concept of skin-termittent fasting is grounded in the idea that by shortening the application window for active products and extending the fasting period while using nourishing and gentle products, the skin can rest, regenerate, and strengthen its protective barrier.
Don't forget to pamper your skin after all those heavy nights of partying.
