Singapore¡¯s Fittest Grandma: How Charlotte Wong Conquered Pull-Ups At 78

Speaking with AsiaOne, Yan shared why her mother started exercising at 57 years of age and how she couldn't do one un-assisted pushup and pull-up.
Why did 78-year-old Charlotte Wong start exercising?
"She was sedentary and travelled a lot when she worked in the corporate world and realised that she had to change her lifestyle to be healthy," She further added that her mother had high cholesterol and the only way to fix this health issue was to start doing physical exercise, which she started doing just after her retirement age of 57.Charlotte Wong follows a high-intensity workout called FitRx, created by her daughter and son, both of whom are coaches at Bespoke Fitness. As per Yan, Charlotte does this mix of strength training and burst cardio thrice a week.
Charlotte Wong From Zero to One
Yan Lin, who is 40 yrs. old, while talking about Charlotte Wong, told AsiaOne- "When she first started training with me four years ago, her modest goal was to be able to do one unassisted sit-up! Pull-ups were never her goal,""She almost gave up, thinking she would never be able to do them. It took her four years to do her first pull-up."
Yan also talked about her mother's first un-assisted pull-up and said, "She was waiting for the bus at the gym one day and decided to try a pull-up and surprised herself with one rep,".
As per Yan Lin, Charlotte Wong can now do five standard pull-ups and two with 5kg of added weight,

Advice from Charlotte Wong and Yan Lin
In a TikTok video shared by Yan Lin on March 16th, Charlotte Wong advised others to do strength training to fight against health conditions like osteoporosis and sarcopenia.Yan Lin, while speaking with AsiaOne, said- "For people struggling with their fitness journey, I recommend getting a coach to begin with. There is too much misinformation online that is hard to filter through," and "Also, people are generally lazy and lack discipline, so paying for a coach gives you structure and accountability."
