Exactly eleven months after flagging off its ambitious plan to bring free Wi-Fi at 400 railway stations in the country, Google today has finished offering free high-speed RailTel (RailWire) Wi-Fi at the 100th railway station in the country -- at Ooty Railway Station.
According to Google, all the people passing through the Udhagamandalam (Ooty) Railway Station every single day can now enjoy the high-speed Internet connectivity. Through all the 100 railway stations where Google free Wi-Fi is live right now, it¡¯s helping over 1 crore passengers stream HD videos, and not just check their emails and messaging apps.
Google Railtel Wi-Fi has over 50 lakhs monthly users, and as much as 15,000 first time Internet users are connecting to the network every single day.
Excited about the roll-out of high-speed Railwire Wi-Fi at the 100th station in India, Gulzar Azad, Country Head - Connectivity, Google India said, ¡°We¡¯re really excited about reaching this milestone and it is an incredible feeling to look back and see how far we¡¯ve come since we announced that we were partnering with Indian Railways and RailTel to provide Wi-Fi at 400 railway stations throughout the country. But what has really inspired us are the stories of how people are using this high-speed access to the full and open Internet. They¡¯re using Railwire Wi-Fi to be more productive with their time and to get things done more efficiently.¡±
