6 essential tips to avoid car breakdowns during the rainy season
The rainy season brings relief from the heat but also poses challenges for motorists. Heavy rains can lead to flooded roads, reduced visibility, and increased risk of car breakdowns. Here¡¯s how you can ensure your vehicle stays reliable and safe during this wet weather.
North India was waiting for monsoons and all of us wanted to enjoy the rains by sitting at home with a chai in our hands and looking out of the window. However, harsh reality, most people are not so privileged and do need to step out for work and other purpose. You would notice many cars and buses breaking down in the middle of the road during this period, adding chaos and traffic on the road. It usually happens when the car is not properly maintained.
Here are 6 ways to ensure your vehicle stays reliable and safe during this wet weather.
1. Check wipers and defoggers
Before leaving for work or any place, make sure your wipers and defoggers are working and in place.
2. Avoid flood areas
Always check X and Google maps for road closure and flood areas. If possible try and avoid those stretches or time your travel accordingly.
3. Always check for fluids and tire pressure
During monsoon, make sure your engine oil, battery, wiper water, brakes, lights are all intact. The tires also tend to lose pressure during the rainy season. so make sure you are checking the tire pressure once a week to avoid a flat tire during traffic
4. Emergency kit
And if your car does happen to stop, please make sure you have all the necessary car items like plier, screwdriver and extra tire. For your own-self, always leave with a bottle of water, a fruit and medical kit, because in rainy season, you can't tell for how long you will be stranded.
5. Avoid overloading your car
Ensure you are not travelling with a lot of luggage or items in your car. During monsoon, avoid even 5 adults in the car.
6. Drive carefully
Please do not be on your phone when there is heavy lash of rains. Drive slowly, use parking lights and be careful. If you cannot see and are having trouble driving, please park at a safe location with parking lights on and inform your family and friends about your location.
