Why Are We So Hell Bent On Ruining Ice Cream?

Anyone who knows me knows that ice cream is one of my favourite things on the planet.

I would eat ice cream as a snack when chilling with my girlfriends, it's my top pick for dessert when ending a romantic dinner date with my one and only significant other or on top of waffles at breakfast or brunch.

Everything is just better with ice cream. I love ice cream because it has the power to make your day better or heal your broken heart. No wonder then, we're always screaming for ice cream.

But now we have gone ahead and started to ruin ice cream too. I mean wasn't destroying the planet enough that we have now set our eyes on destroying this delicious treat? I don't care about other desserts but why have we made ice cream so complicated?

If you take a close look at the ice cream section at your grocery store, you will see how the freezer is flooded with bullshit like upmarket gelatos, low calorie ice creams, vegan flavours for those who don't consume dairy (then why do you want to eat ice cream?), artisanal versions and how can we forget those 'hand-crafted signature' ice creams (as if any ice cream is made without the use of hands).

Now do you see my problem? Why is there a constant push back against childhood favourites like orange bars or ice cream sandwiches. Whenever I have felt bad in my life, automatically my hand reaches out to a flavour like vanilla, strawberry or even a choco-bar. I can't even think of eating something as weird as mayonnaise or oyster ice cream. I would be disgusted instead of feeling good.

It doesn't only end with the rise of pathetic flavours. We have ruined even the manner in which we eat ice cream. The ice cream cone too has fallen out of fashion. It's lost in front of the tub. The genius of ice cream in a cone is how the very shape of it is designed to narrow down on its own. Making it impossible for me to forget that every pleasure has an invariable end. In the case of my dear favourite Cornetto, that same sad ending is sweetened by a piece of sold chocolate, making a strong affirmation for happy endings.

All these fancy trends are out to ruin ice cream as we have known it. But we can't let the humble classic favoruites die. So what can we do? Continue eating all those traditional flavours and we'll be okay and happier. Because ice cream makes everything good, yes?
