Bizarre! In BPSC Goof-Up, Teacher Fraudulently Gets Job & Is Caught Only After Biometric Mismatch

It is not uncommon to hear of 'frauds' or malpractices during examinations in India, especially in competitive examinations.

In the latest incident, a BPSC teacher fraudulently obtained a job and was working in a government primary school at Raghunandanpur in Bihar's Begusarai. He was caught this Tuesday, long after the examination was held.

Thumb impression was a mismatch

The incident of fraud came to light when the District Education Officer was scanning the documents of all newly-appointed teachers in the first phase of recruitment last year.

The DEO found that the photo of the teacher - Numa Kumari - who was working in the school and the photo of the candidate who had given the examination were different.

Post this, the DEO initiated an inquiry and asked officials to conduct the biometric including thumb impression of Numa Kumari.

When the thumb impression also proved to be a mismatch, the issue was conveyed to the District Magistrate, who ordered the fake teacher's arrest.

Subsequently, the teacher was arrested, police said on Tuesday.

The official said that she will be produced in the local court and she will go to judicial custody.

Why were biometric tests ordered for the newly appointed teachers?

Complaints about candidates fraudulently obtaining the job of teacher in the first phase was commonly received by the Education Department.

As a result, Additional Chief Secretary, Education, K.K. Pathak had ordered biometric tests for newly-appointed teachers.

Not the first time: Cases abound of fraudulences in examinations

Recently, the news of a Punjab man dressing up as his girlfriend to write a multi-purpose health workers exam in Punjab's Faridkot grabbed made the headlines.

Surprisingly, Angrez Singh even showed fake voter and Aadhar cards to prove he was the candidate, Paramjit Kaur.

In October last year, three fake candidates including two women who were impersonating male candidates were arrested in Jaipur, while appearing for the Plus Three first semester examination of Shastri at a Sanskrit college.

It is not just the common man, but even known personalities who have been a part of such frauds. A case in point being senior BJP leader and Chhattisgarh education minister Kedar Kashyap's story.

In 2015, a fake candidate allegedly sat for university exams as proxy for senior BJP leader and Chhattisgarh education minister Kedar Kashyap's wife Shanti Kashyap.
