'Google isn't the same anymore': Employee working 12+ hours reveals harsh reality after mass layoffs
The dream of working at Google may not be as glamorous as it seems, according to a current employee who describes a decline in the company's work culture and rising expectations amidst mass layoffs. Their candid account on Reddit reveals a stark contrast to the tech giant's once-celebrated image
We've all heard the buzz about working at Google¡ªamazing perks, vibrant workplaces, and the prestige of being part of a FAANG company (Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google). Many dream of landing a job there, but a current Google employee is shedding light on the reality behind the glossy image, bluntly stating that the "culture has become shit." What's really going on inside one of the world's most sought-after workplaces?
In a candid Reddit post, a Google employee, who has also worked at another FAANG company, shared a surprising take on life at the tech giant.

"This is my second FAANG company. I thought that after coming to Google life will be very good. But? The truth is the opposite," the employee wrote, painting a stark contrast to the glamorous image often associated with Google.
The employee went on to describe gruelling work hours, saying, "I've been working for more than 12 hours daily, or more than that, but still, the expectations are not met. My Manager keeps telling that there is not enough impact."
This sentiment struck a chord with many who commented on the post, with several users pointing out that this trend has become increasingly noticeable at Google, especially since the company began its mass layoffs.
"Heard this from Google since they started their cost-cutting and layoffs. Same with many other companies," a user wrote.
Google started laying off employees in January 2023, with over 12,000 staff members affected that year, and the layoffs have continued into 2024.
Another user expressed concern over the direction Google is heading, suggesting, "It's time to sell the shares of Google," reflecting a broader unease among investors and employees alike.
Highlighting the disparity between perception and reality, one commenter noted, "Well if you don't work hard enough, how will Google afford to employ the Instagram influencers who show their daily routine at Google of working 2 hours a day and enjoying all the perks?"
It seems that the allure of working at Google is fading, as employees grapple with increased workloads, heightened expectations, and the ongoing uncertainty of job security in a company that was once the epitome of tech excellence.
