'No future after education is over': Indian engineer warns students against higher studies in USA, says dreams will be shattered
In 2023, over 1.3 million Indian students went abroad for higher education, with the USA being a top choice. However, Indian engineer Suren warns that despite the allure of international degrees, students face significant hurdles, including limited H1B visas and a challenging path to permanent residency.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) data reveals that in 2023, a total of 1,318,955 Indian students went abroad to study in 68 different countries. Among these, 351,106 students chose the USA, making it the second most popular destination after Canada. On August 6, US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti took to X to share a video encouraging students to attend the 'EducationUSA' fairs happening across India for the 2024 season, highlighting the educational opportunities available in the USA.

He highlights a stark reality: having an 'international degree' does not guarantee automatic success in jobs, investments, or opportunities. The struggles and challenges are present everywhere.
"Yes if you get a job, we can make obviously more money but after sometime it really won't matter," he adds.
Unfortunately, the reality is that - just because we have an

He shared another statistic: that "out of the 350,000, not more than 30,000 will get H1B per year. Rest will have to go back to India under huge education loan debt. Out of the 30,000 who are coming in now, almost nobody will get a green card in their lifetime. They would be trapped under visa renewals and dropbox appointments."
