The airlines have been in the news for a long time now because it had been defaulting on salary disbursement to its senior management along with pilots and engineers since August due to severe cash crunch. The airlines also went into loss due to the crunch.
On Sunday the airlines was left with no other option but to cancel 14 flights as their pilots reported ¡°sick¡± over non-payment of their dues, sources said, PTI reported.
Though employees have been partially paid off for the month of September while the full salaries of October and November remain unpaid. ¡°At least 14 flights have been cancelled so far due to some pilots reporting sick. They are protesting against non-payment of salary, dues and the indifferent attitude of the National Aviator¡¯s Guild (NAG) in taking up the issue with the management,¡± the source said.
However, reportedly in a statement given by the airline on flights it said that flights were cancelled due to an ¡°unforeseen operational circumstance, and not pilot non-cooperation¡±. No number on the number of flights cancelled was given by them.
A Jet Airways spokesperson said the management was in regular dialogue with pilots and other teams to discuss and resolve on-going issues including disbursement of salaries.
The airline said that the passengers whose flights were cancelled were duly informed through text messages and have been re-accommodated or compensated accordingly.
¡°The company continues to enjoy the complete support and cooperation of all its employees, including pilots and engineers, individually and through their respective representative bodies, who have extended their solidarity and full support to the airline,¡± the airline further said.
