16 Inmates Escape Rajasthan Jail After Throwing Chilli Powder On Guard¡¯s Face
16 inmates of the Phalodi Sub-jail in Rajasthan fled from incarceration after attacking prison guards. They threw chili powder in the eyes of a woman guard and other jail staff. Police believe that the attack and the escape were pre-planned as the inmates fled on a vehicle.
In a daring case of jailbreak, 16 inmates of the Phalodi Sub-jail in Rajasthan fled from incarceration after attacking prison guards.
The incident happened on Monday night at the sub-jail in the Jodhpur district.
According to the police the 16 inmates, all of them undertrials, escaped on Monday evening when the prisoners were going back to their barracks after dinner.
They threw chili powder in the eyes of a woman guard and other jail staff.
Superintendent of Police (Jodhpur Rural) Anil Kayal said that the prisoners fled after throwing chilli powder in the eyes of the guards when they were being lodged in their barracks after dinner at about 8.30 PM.
Phalodi deputy collector Yashpal Ahuja said, ¡°Upon noticing commotion, I came rushing to the spot and saw vegetables strewn on the floor. A woman police personnel was screaming in pain. I asked the guard what had happened. He said five-seven prisoners have escaped from the jail after throwing chili powder and vegetables at the jail guards. I immediately alerted the SHO and district collector about the incident, following which efforts were initiated to apprehend the escaped detainees.¡±
According to the police, those who escaped include three facing murder charges and drug trafficking.
Police believe that the attack and the escape were pre-planned as the inmates fled on a vehicle that was parked outside the jail.
An operation has been launched to nab the escapees.
"We have roped in various police teams to search them", said Kayal adding that all the routes in the area have been sealed.
