How a post-retirement hobby brought high accolades
Yang hails from Fuzhou, Fujian, China and has had a career in oil and gas drilling research and engineering.
Having retired 28 years ago in 1996, Yang had embraced hobbies such as table tennis and electronic gaming.
Beginning with simpler video games initially, he progressed to more intricate titles like Tomb Raider and Call of Duty, accumulating a collection of over 500 game discs through his exploration of gaming stores across the nation.
"Games have a deep impact on me. It has helped me a lot. Things unknown, scientific things, can also be understood from games," he said, in a video uploaded by Guinness World Records.
Cherished figure in the gaming community
"Me achieving this record is everyone's effort," said Yang, in response to his oldest gaming streamer (male) title by Guinness World Record.
Embarking on the journey of video game vlogging on Bilibili four years ago, Yang has earned the admiration of more than 280,000 followers.
It were his followers who gifted him the PS5, the latest game console.
His enthusiasm for gaming and commitment to sharing his experiences have solidified his position as a cherished figure within the gaming community.
Yang's advice to youngsters
Yang advises youngsters to balance gaming with study or work.
He recommends that young gamers fully engage in gaming with structured plans and schedules, preferably after retirement.
Yang himself maintains a disciplines schedule, despite his passion for video gaming. His daily routine includes participating in activities such as playing table tennis at 7:30 am, going grocery shopping at 9:30 am, dedicating three hours to gaming starting at 3 pm, and concluding his day at 9:30 pm.
Yang anticipates the rise of new generations of gaming consoles and games in China, expressing a belief in the valuable wisdom embedded within the gaming experience for children to relish.
