Aam Aadmi Party Sets New Example, Says No To Crackers To Celebrate Delhi Assembly Polls Victory

As Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is all set for a landslide victory in Delhi Assembly elections, the party is also setting a new precedent.

The party has urged its supporters not to burst firecrackers during victory celebrations to prevent air pollution. On Monday, the party supremo and incumbent Delhi Chief Minister asked AAP volunteers not to burst firecrackers.

Party functionaries said though preparations are underway to celebrate the victory in the polls, whose results will be announced on Tuesday, Kejriwal has asked party volunteers not to burst firecrackers as it contributes to pollution.

Reducing air pollution is one of the main guarantees given by AAP in both the party's manifesto as well as in guarantee card. This comes as the national capital continues to battle toxic air quality.

On Tuesday, the air quality in the national capital deteriorated to a "very poor" category on the Air Quality Index (AQI) said Centre-run System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR). The air quality is likely to deteriorate and remain in the 'poor' to the lower end of the 'very poor' category at least for the next few more days, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its bulletin.

Other preparations to celebrate the victory, including ordering sweets and are also underway at the party headquarters in ITO, they said. Political differences apart, we can only wish that other parties also take a cue from the AAP and say no to crackers to celebrate.

The AAP has overcome a huge anti-incumbency and an aggressive campaign by the BJP, which was led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

The party had also deployed several state chief ministers from across the country for the campaign. The AAP which heavily campaigned on the populist measures proved it struck a chord with the voters of Delhi.

Exit polls had predicted a big victory for AAP with some indicating that it can even repeat its 2015 landslide when it had bagged 67 seats and reducing the BJP to three. Congress had drawn a blank. The BJP while will improve the 2015 figures, it is a big setback for the party.

It is also a big setback for Congress which once again failed to open its account in the national capital. The party was ousted from power after ruling for three consecutive terms but has since been obliterated in the national capital.
