India, however, ranked on number 91 on the master list among 140 nations.
We may think that we¡¯re living in a beehive of extreme fatalities, but it might surprise you that India ranks number one in terms of the number of people who have helped a stranger, according to world giving index.
CAF World Giving Index provides insights into the scope and nature of giving around the world. The report concentrates on various forms of giving and India has secured the top position in flying colours.
The index judges on three main aspects of behaviour:
Helped a stranger, or someone you didn¡¯t know who needed help?
Donated money to a charity?
Volunteered your time to an organisation?
On the master list, India ranked at number 91 on the among 140 nations, while Myanmar topped the list with the most generous country in the world, according to this U.K.-based Charities Aid Foundation.
Myanmar was followed by United States, Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Canada, Indonesia, United Kingdom, Ireland, and the United Arab Emirates, the international charity has found.
"The generosity of people, even in countries suffering from disaster and turmoil, is truly humbling. It's amazing that more than half the people in the world said they helped a stranger," John Low, Chief Executive of the Charities Aid Foundation, said in a statement.

Furthermore, an uplift in donating money has also been observed in three of the five BRICS countries, with both the proportion and the actual number of people donating.
"India's modest two percentage point increase in those participating in donating money translates to 16.8 million extra people participating in this activity. In contrast, China's modest decrease of two percentage points sees a reduction of almost 26 million people donating money in the month prior to the interview," the report said.
