Severe Backlash
Back in July 2017, the annual Comptroller and Auditor General(CAG) report had claimed that the Railways¡¯ food was ¡®unfit for human consumption¡¯.
IRCTC was severely criticised after a video showed a tea vendor mixing toilet water in a can of tea. Travellers have also complained that they¡¯ve found insects in the food.
Complaints about mice and insects on board near the food were common.
Live Streaming from the kitchens
IRCTC will now live stream the preparation of the food so people can watch what equipments are being used to cook food, under what conditions the food is being prepared and whether the cooks are wearing their proper gears.
IRCTC tweeted this:
CRB @AshwaniLohani inaugurated the live streaming of food preparation in base kitchens on IRCTC's website. This step will further enhance transparency and public confidence in the food preparation & packaging process across Indian Railway network. pic.twitter.com/ZCfw58hqty
