Last month, Thailand had announced that under the "Phuket Sandbox" programme, fully vaccinated travellers from a total of 78 countries including India will be allowed to visit the country.
The "Phuket Sandbox 7+7 Extension" program which was launched in July reduces the mandatory stay in the resort island for fully vaccinated international travellers from 14 to seven days, after which another seven days can be spent in alternative tourism hotspots in Krabi, Phang-Nga or Surat Thani.
Though it was initially limited to a few countries, given the number of Indians visiting Thailand every year, the country was added to the list recently.
Based on Thailand's Ministry of Tourism and Sports data, almost 2 million Indians visited Thailand in 2019 making them the third-largest group of foreign nationals to visit the "land of smiles" that year.
