Planning to fly Air India, throw you non-vegetarian meal craving out the window, because, the loss-laden Airlines has decided to completely scrap it out of the economy class menu.

On Monday, the airline said the decision was made to reduce wastage, reduce cost and improve catering service. The airline also says having only veg in economy class will avoid mix-ups and that vegetarian meals are more in demand, reports TOI.
"We implemented this move about two weeks back. It is expected to save us Rs 7-8 crore annually," said a senior official.

A report in The Hindu states that the number of passengers opting for vegetarian meals has risen, because of which the non -veg are often wasted. ¡°Also, we run short of vegetarian meals, leading to complaints. So we decided to serve only vegetarian meals in certain sectors,¡± the official said.
In 2016 Air India stopped serving non-vegetarian food to its economy-class passengers on flights lasting up to 90 minutes states the Hindu Report.
Reports state that Air India has a mounting debt of over Rs. 52,000 crore and cost-cutting is the only way to deal with the burden, while the government has started the search for a potential buyer to sell off the airline.
