Aisa Bhi Hota Hai! Gujarat Police Files A Cheating Complaint After Seven Years

It seems it took a lifetime for a victim to file a police complaint. Navrangpura police in Ahmedabad, lodged a Rs 16 lakh cheating complaint on Thursday, more than seven years after the incident.

The victim and complainant, owns the business of aiding clients in making passport and visa applications. The accused, a resident of Bengaluru, promised her job placement for 40 students in either hotel management or nursing in UK, Australia and Canada.

An appointment was set to interview 40 students in a city hotel, after collecting Rs 16 lakh, but the accused never turned up and remained untraceable.

All these years, the victim tried to lodge complaint with police in person and online but to no avail. On Thursday, after a gap of seven years, Navrangpura police called her and registered a complaint. Valsala Nair, a resident of Naroda, has her office in Chinubhai Towers, Ashram Road.

She helps people fill up applications for passport, visas, etc. In March 2009 she became member of Malayali Association, headed by one Gopal Nair. Gopal called up Valsala and told her that her contact details had been passed on to one Shashidhari Kateri, a resident of Bengaluru, who would call her with business proposal.

Police said, ¡°Valsala received a call from Kateri on March 12, 2009. He told her that there were 40 job vacancies in UK, Australia and Canada for students who have completed Hotel Management and Nursing courses and she could send them there.¡±

On the day of the interview, Kateri did not turn up and remained untraceable. Valsala told Mirror, ¡°After the incident, I went to Law garden police Chowky. Police took my application but did not lodge a complaint. Unfortunately, I don¡¯t have the receipt of the police application I made in 2009. In the meantime, I returned all the money to the students considering it to be my moral responsibility.

But I have lost the amount. All this while I tried to contact various police stations online, including the ones in Karnataka (as the accused stays in Bengaluru) but was unable to lodge complaint. Finally, Navrangpura police called me yesterday and took my complaint.¡± Navrangpura PI R V Desai, when asked why it took the police so long to lodge the complaint, clarified: ¡°We are not aware about any application made in 2009. We filed the complaint after due diligence post July 2016 application by the victim.¡±
