An Irish Man With Coronavirus Symptoms Ran Away From An Odisha Hospital And Nobody Can Find Him

In a rather bizarre incident that can have serious implications, an Irish man with suspected symptoms of coronavirus has gone missing in Odisha. The Irish man who had landed in Bhubaneswar International Airport on Thursday with a fever.

He was sent for the mandatory screening which India has started for all passengers arriving from abroad at the airports. After the screening, he was sent to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack where he was kept in an isolation ward. But in the evening he somehow managed to get out of the isolation ward and fled the hospital.

Based on a complaint by the hospital authorities, the Mangalabag Police have filed a case and launched a search operation for the missing Irish man.

Odisha has not reported any coronavirus cases so far. Two suspected cases, a couple from Uttar Pradesh who was admitted to a hospital in Cuttack after the duo who was working as crew members in a ship named Chemstar Stellar and it had travelled through several parts of China and Singapore tested negative for Covid-19.

However, the missing Irishman is likely to create some panic in the state.

Incidentally, this is not the first time a suspected coronavirus patient has ran away from a hospital. In a similar incident in Moga, Punjab a man who had recently returned from Dubai had fled from a hospital after he was asked to get admitted to the isolation ward. He had gone to the hospital with a cough and as he had just returned from abroad, he was asked to get admitted to the isolation ward.

But he ran away after some people tried to click his pictures. However, after being convinced by the doctors who went to his home the man agreed to give his samples and get admitted to the hospital. Initial tests have suggested that he has pneumonia symptoms. However, his blood sample has been sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune for confirmation.

This comes as the Confirmed cases of Covid-19 in India rose to 30. So far, Delhi-NCR has reported three cases, one each in Hyderabad and Jaipur and six in Agra. A group of 16 Italian tourists had also tested positive in the country.

The first three cases which were reported in India, from Kerala have since then recovered and have been discharged from hospitals. Nearly a hundred suspected cases are also being observed for the infection.
