After serving the country for 36 glorious years, it was decommissioned in 1997. Till 2012 it served as a Museum, anchored at Mumbai. Unfortunately it met a scarcely believable end when it was sold only to be scrapped in 2014. Most of us thought it was the last we had seen of it.
