Bengaluru Woman Accepts Request Of Man On Facebook Who Dupes Her Of Jewellery Worth Rs 2.2 Lakh
A 23-year-old Bengaluru woman has been duped by a Facebook friend of jewellery worth Rs 22 lakh Ashwini V a homemaker and resident of Rajarajeshwarinagar lodged a complaint with Jayanagar police against JP Nagar Sixth Phase resident Vinod.
A 23-year-old Bengaluru woman has been duped by a Facebook friend of jewellery worth Rs 2.2 lakh. Ashwini V, a homemaker and resident of Rajarajeshwarinagar lodged a complaint with Jayanagar police against JP Nagar Sixth Phase resident Vinod alias Manjunath.

Ashwini V received a Facebook request from Vinod on June 1. Despite not knowing Vinod personally, she accepted the request. They exchanged numbers within 10 days of Ashwini accepting Vinod¡¯s friend request. One day, Ashwini was called by Vinod and he told her that he was in dire need of money as his sister had some financial issues. As a result, Ashwini gave him Rs 4,500.
A couple of days later, Ashwini again received a call from Vinod and he told her that his mother was suffering from cardiac problem and money is needed for surgery. Though Ashwini told him that she didn¡¯t have much money, he insisted her of giving her gold jewellery.
Ashwini agreed and gave two gold chains, three rings, one bracelet and a pair of earrings-the jewellery collectively had a worth of Rs 2.2 lakh.

After taking the jewellery, Vinod started avoiding Ashwini and didn¡¯t respond to her calls. Ashwini later learnt that Vinod¡¯s mother had heart ailment and he also had another name called Manjunath.
An investigating officer told The New Indian Express, ¡°We have taken up the case of cheating and launched a manhunt.¡±
