Tick-tock! At a bustling Mumbai office, being fashionably late just got a lot less fashionable. A Mumbai-based beauty brand recently introduced a strict rule to ramp up productivity among employees but interestingly, it backfired on the founder himself.
Kaushal Shah, founder of Evor Beauty, recently implemented a new office policy requiring all staff to arrive promptly by 9:30 am.
Those arriving late would face a Rs 200 penalty¡ªa move intended to boost office productivity.
However, Shah soon found himself on the receiving end of his own rule.
Within two weeks, he had already paid out Rs 1,000 in fines for arriving late.
Taking to social media platform X, Shah candidly shared his experience, admitting the unforeseen costs incurred due to the new policy.
"Last week, I introduced a strict rule for everyone to be in the office by 9:30 am (previously, we were arriving around 10-11 am) and if late, pay ?200 as penalty," he explained in a post. He even posted a screenshot of his own transaction as proof, humorously lamenting, "This is me paying it for the 5th time."
Reflecting on the incident, Shah emphasised a crucial leadership principle: "If you establish a rule for your employees, you must be the first to follow it."
The response from readers was mixed, with some poking fun at Shah's payments, suggesting he was essentially paying into his own account.
One comment read, "Paying to whom? Your current account."
Another questioned, "Did productivity go up or just number of hours slogging went up?"
Yet another pointed out the possible ill consequences of this: "This is horrible. didn't expect this from you. bro to save the 200 rs someone can rush what if they get into an accident or something. don't play with low earning people."
