'Brilliant Scientist' Runs Breaking Bad-Style Meth Lab But Ends Up Calling Police On Himself
A 23-year-old individual in the United States operated a meth lab reminiscent of the TV show "Breaking Bad" at his alleged business, Quantitative Laboratories LLC in Ronkonkoma. In the show, a chemistry teacher had started a meth lab discreetly. But police became aware of this illicit operation only when the man dialed 911 to report a burglary at his establishment in June last year, attempting to present it as a lawful enterprise.

911 call discloses illegal meth business
Matthew Leshinsky alerted law enforcement about an alleged burglary at his claimed business, Quantitative Laboratories LLC in Ronkonkoma, by making a 911 call at approximately 3:30 a.m. on June 7, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney¡¯s Office.
Upon arriving at the scene, the police discovered a completely different narrative that would have remained undisclosed if not for the 911 call.
Meth Lab ¨¤ la Breaking Bad
Police officers discovered shattered glass at the lab's entrance.
Later, they realised that the lab was secretly making illegal drugs like methamphetamine and other controlled substances, including the hallucinogenic dimethyltryptamine, as stated by the district attorney¡¯s office.
Suffolk District Attorney Ray Tierney stated, "The accused was running a drug lab reminiscent of 'Breaking Bad' and attempted to hide it by posing as a legitimate business."
Police discovered over 100 pieces of lab equipment, chemicals used to make meth, and more than three ounces of methamphetamine.
Additionally, they found 625,000 milligrams of pure ketamine and 20 plastic jugs of Gamma-butyrolactone (GBL), a substance similar to the "date rape drug" GHB, according to prosecutors. The police also seized about $40,000 during the operation.
'Brilliant' scientist conducting research for public benefit
On his LinkedIn page, Leshinsky stated that Quantitative Laboratories LLC specialises in the analysis of cannabis.
Despite confessing to producing dangerous drugs, his lawyer, David Besso, aimed to portray a positive image of his client saying that Leshinsky is a "brilliant" scientist conducting research on drug addiction for the benefit of the public.
He denied allegations of selling meth from the lab. Besso acknowledged that Leshinsky applied for a Department of Environmental Conservation license but emphasised that he lacked the proper certification at the time of his arrest.
Mr Leshinsky's sentencing is set for March 20.
