Budget 2025: Everything that happens between Presidential address and tabling of budget
On the day of the Union Budget, the Finance Minister will call upon the President at the Rashtrapati Bhavan to get assent before heading to Parliament. Ahead of the presentation of the budget in Parliament, the Union Cabinet will hold a meeting and approve it.
The Budget session of the Indian Parliament got underway with President Droupadi Murmu addressing both Houses of Parliament on Friday. Ahead of the first full budget in his third term, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the focus is on "Innovation, Inclusion, Investment."
Following the joint address by President Murmu, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Economic Survey 2025 in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha separately.
Economic Survey
The Economic Survey 2025 document will be tabled in the Lok Sabha at 12 pm and in the Rajya Sabha at 2 pm and will provide an assessment of the state of the economy and an outlook for the next financial year.
This will be followed by the presentation of the Union Budget, which will be tabled on February 1.
When is Union Budget presented
Until 2016, the Union Budget was presented on the last working day of February, but starting in 2017, the budget has been presented on February 1.
Halwa Ceremony
The process for presenting the budget starts days earlier with the traditional Halwa Ceremony, which was held on Friday, January 24, this year.
Lock-in period
The Halwa Ceremony also marks the beginning of the lock-in period, during which all officials and staff involved with the Budget are not permitted to leave the ministry premises until the document is presented in Parliament. This is done to maintain the secrecy of the budget document and ensure that it is not leaked.

On the day of the Union Budget, the Finance Minister will call upon the President at the Rashtrapati Bhavan to get assent before heading to Parliament to present the Union Budget.
Budget presentation
Ahead of the presentation of the budget in Parliament, the Union Cabinet will hold a meeting and approve it.
After this, the Finance Minister will deliver her budget speech and table the budget in Parliament.
This will be followed by the Prime Minister addressing Parliament, thanking the Finance Minister for the budget.

Post-budget press conference
Once the budget is presented in Parliament, the Finance Minister will address the Reserve Bank of India's central board of directors.
It is also customary for the Finance Minister to address a post-budget press conference.
